After a whole day spent on airplanes or at airports, we have finally reached our destination – Iceland! Having a lot of down time has given us the opportunity to do a deep dive into the understanding of tourist trends of Iceland and the pros and cons that the industry has on the country as a whole. The biggest themes that were articulated was that society needed to have tourism to have an effective economy but on the other end our class discussed the potential destroying of nature as well as having an undefined Icelandic community. While we do recognize that we are also tourists in this country we hope after reading these articles we can acclimate ourselves accordingly and behave like the good Gustavus students we are.
